THIS PAGE: Once Jessie has stripped bark from locally felled
trees, she leaves it to dry for several months, then boils it to
extract the tannins and uses the solution to tan her skins.
OPPOSITE PAGE: After soaking skins in an alkaline solution
to loosen the fur, Jessie lays them over a wooden frame and
strips them bare using a wooden scraper.
